Melissa’s 10 Spring Weekend Recipes

Image
Hello, Melissa here, sharing 10 of my absolute favourite Springtime recipes to enjoy over the long weekend or whenever you please.  I’ve picked these out especially as they are all simple, cheerful and based on easy to get ingredients like seasonal veg, popular cupboard items and frozen produce too.     1. Chocolate Clusters Totally flexible chocolate bites – inspired by the rice krispie clusters that my Mum never let me have! Use whatever you have to hand in your cupboards; coconut flakes / seeds / chopped nuts work really well too. And look out for fairtrade chocolate. Get the recipe.     2. Asparagus Tray Bake This one pan tray bake makes use of frozen peas, broad beans or edamame if you have it in your freezer and if you can’t get asparagus yet, swap for broccoli of any kind or greens you already have. Get the recipe.     3. NEW: Broccoli & quinoa salad with pickled pink onions I love this with quinoa or len

Jasmine’s Spooky Pumpkin Latte for Halloween

Image
It’s spooky season! It looks like we’ll be staying largely indoors this Halloween, so pumpkin carving will be extra de rigueur this year. I hope you’ll get creative with yours, because the possibilities are endless. One problem with this festive activity though is that it can generate quite a bit of food waste — but I never met a problem I couldn’t fix!!! In the past few years, pumpkin lattes have been as synonymous with autumn as the crunch of fallen leaves and the smell of bonfires. That said, the kind you buy from mainstream coffee shops are full of sugar, additives and of course lots of caffeine. If you’re looking for a gentler alternative to this tasty treat, may I suggest this delicious recipe created one October at my Ayurvedic pop-up café East by West to warm the bellies of customers when they came in from the cold? This is a feel-good recipe that’s warming, lightly spiced and the ultimate comfort “food.” Plus it’s super easy to make and will save you money and plastic waste

Our Hemsley + Hemsley Café at Selfridges Says Goodbye

Image
After 4.5 wonderful years, it’s time to say goodbye to our Hemsley + Hemsley Café at Selfridges. After a turbulent and trying 2020 around the globe, our beloved café will be shutting shop for good on Saturday 31st October. Unfortunately, the continued Covid-19 restrictions have made it no longer possible for a little cafe like ours, along with so many brothers and sisters of ours in the hospitality industry to keep its doors open. We had an amazing run of it (and who knows where we might pop up again!) and want to thank Selfridges and all our friends there for our time together. We are grateful and honoured to have achieved what we have and will miss the cafe, our staff, our customers old and new (bye-bye regulars, you are loved!) and of course the food…THE FOOD!!!! Don’t worry, for those who need one last hit (or indeed to taste for the first time!) you have a few weeks left to get your hands on the delicious dishes from our final ever menu .  When we opened the café at Selfrid
